Manufacturing is split into two main areas, knitting and finishing.

Knitting

Knitting converts the dyed yarn into knitted pieces. This is done mainly on electronically controlled, V-bed knitting machines or other specialised machinery. The use of these machines facilitates the huge variety of designs, sizes, weights, colourways and textures available giving a considerable depth of product offering.

Finishing

Once the product is knitted, any unfinished edges are closed and sealed by a highly skilled operator. This is done on stitch-for-point linking machine making the fabric stable and giving comfort to the wearer.

The product is now ready for washing (called milling) which is done in uniquely soft, Scottish water and natural soap. This allows the tightly spun cashmere yarn to open up slowly and gives the Simply Cashmere product the soft yet durable handle the Scottish Cashmere industry is world famous for. Milling times are critical and different for every single dyelot or batch of yarn. Every product or product set is made from the same batch of yarn to ensure consistency of colour and degree of softness.

Products needing trimming then go through the intricate finishing process. They are either attached by another stitch-for-point linking operation or lockstitching. Whichever method is used, the product is finally finished off by hand sewing which gives comfort and durability.

Quality control and product checking is integral to the process and inherent in every single operation ensuring every piece is perfect.
